(map) The newest store officially opens this Wednesday at 8 am, but we were lucky enough to get a sneak preview. It looks fantastic! The medium-sized (35,000 square feet) store offers everything we’ve come to know and love about Whole Foods, customized with a Bee Cave flair. And the first five days of opening, they plan to donate a percentage of sales back to the community. Above, you can see employees readying the prepared-foods section, where there will be a deli, take-out counter, custom sandwiches and a bakery. Below, the fresh pizza area. You can get meals here and carry them to dining areas outside or upstairs.
The signage is simple and whimsical, like the “nothing fishy” above seafood, and “every cheese you please” over the cheese shop. We especially liked the Express Checkout sign, which read “10-ish items.”
Over 350 beers are available for purchase, as well as many wines, including faves from Texas. You can pick up beverages to open and enjoy with your meal in any of the dining areas.
Upstairs, The Buzz is a casual, laid-back bar which will actually offer wines on tap as well as beers. You can bring your food up here, too.
A sweeping view of the hill country from one of the outside patios. There’s a rainwater collection system installed for watering all the landscaping, as well as the many pots of herbs and flowers for sale.
Once stocked, this produce area will be amazing, with signs detailing the nutritional value of each fruit and veggie. Whole Foods has been walking the organic walk for a long time, not only in food, but in health and beauty products. Below, an employee readies the supplements and body-care aisles.
Local touches abound, from locally made foods and products to images of old Bee Cave. The new library is one of the groups benefiting from the first week’s sales donations.
