Torchy’s Tacos

(map) At last! Austin’s popular taco joint has brought their “Damn Good” tacos out West! With their delicious, whimsically named tacos and industrial grunge-chic decor, the place has been mobbed since opening. Every Torchy’s location is designed and decorated differently, so even though it’s technically a (small) chain, it doesn’t feel like one. Below, the little red devil mascot oversees the action at the order window.

Some tacos have cute names like “Mr. Pink,” “Trailer Park,” and “The Republican.”  Here on the left, the green-chile pork, carnitas slow-roasted with green chiles and topped with queso fresco. On the right, the decadently rich fried-avocado taco, fresh avocado deep-fried and topped with refries, pico and cheeses. You get your choice of five different salsas. (Torchy’s has won the Austin Chronicle’s hot-sauce contest three times.) They also serve breakfast tacos and an incredible green-chile queso topped with guacamole.

There’s outdoor dining in addition to lots of tables inside. Note the basket of yoga blankets in case you’d like to opt for a picnic in the grass!
