(map) For the grand finaleĀ of Texas Tiki Week in Austin, Treaty Oak Rum invited folks to get lei’d at the Pig, with free rummy, fruity cocktails, island music and Polynesian pork treats. Although held at a strip center, the mood was festive, celebrating TNP’s recent features on the Food Network and the Travel Channel. And of course the booze helped!
Treaty Oak founder Daniel Barnes has a good time, which he probably does a lot. Oh yeah, trust us, you want to party with this guy.
The Tipsy Texan, aka David Alan, is Austin’s most famous mixologist and the genius behind many of our town’s notable cocktail bars. From the mini tiki bar, he dispenses three different rum libations, ranging from banana-flavored to mint to pineapple-filled. A styling retro boombox fitted with an iPhone pumped out Caribbean-themed music.
The Noble Pig served up a special sandwich for the occasion: candied pulled-pork on grilled bread, with a mango slaw. As the party went on, lines for the special stretched out the door. Look for the Pig’s smoked-duck pastrami to be featured on Adam Richman’s show, “Best Sandwich in America,” in August on the Travel Network.
