Thirsty Planet Brewing

(map) These guys have only been in business for four months, but their craft beers are already so successful, they’ve had to order more kegs! The brewery is a fun place to visit, with an art-filled tap room, free samples of beer, and cool, friendly guys who love to take you through the brewing process (or just pour you some more beer). As Jake would say, “Stay Thirsty!”

The tap room has big windows onto the fermentation tanks, a handmade bar, and lots of tall tables with stools for hanging out. You can rent the place for private events, too. There are plans in the works for picnic tables and a bocce court outside.

They brew three beers: the Yellow Armadillo wheat beer, above, the Thirsty Goat amber ale and the Buckethead IPA. Without getting into lingo like “hoppy” or “crisp,” all three were awesome. They’ll give you free samples of each, then you can buy a pint of your fave for $5.

Brian the Brewmaster takes the group through the process. He’s been brewing beer for 18 years and is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about it. He’s also super-friendly, and patiently answered (many) questions. It’s a lot of work, but you can tell he’s living his dream.

It may not look like they have a keg shortage, but they’ve already had to order more. The beers are available on tap at Jack Allen’s Kitchen, Little Woodrow’s and Fion in Bee Cave, and Dig Pub in Cedar Park.

There are lots of cool t-shirts, caps and hats for sale in the tap room. Are you a Yellow Armadillo or more of a Thirsty Goat?
