(map) Cafe 131 has a new owner, who is freshening up the menu (and decor) while keeping some old favorites. Fortunately, she is still serving up this Sunday special, pot roast with all the fixin’s. The beef is meltingly tender and delicious, and could easily serve two (maybe even 3!). The cafe tries to source ingredients locally when possible.
Also available on Sundays: brunch, with a variety of egg dishes, such as omelets and migas, and this Hill Country Benedict. Scrambled eggs and crispy bacon are topped with spicy chile con queso, then slices of avocado. Creamy queso is a brilliant idea for eggs, and this one is egg-cellent.
Located in a cute antique building, the cafe serves beer and wine, listed on the board along with daily specials. Rounding out the menu are burgers, salads and sandwiches, plus more beef, including a killer chicken-fried steak with cream gravy.
