(map) It may be hard to believe, but this rugged, two-mile hike down into canyons and across creeks is right in the middle of Lakeway. It makes for a fun little adventure on a sunny afternoon. Mostly shaded by oaks and cedar trees, the path starts off fairly easy, with a flat walk to the trailhead.
There are a couple of markers here and there, but it’s still pretty easy to get lost. The good news is that the trail circles back to the start. Eventually.
The trail descends into a leafy canyon. The path crosses a creek in two places, one with a bridge and one without. If it’s after a big rain, you probably want to use the bridge.
In some spots, the trail skirts the edge of a fairly deep canyon, so you want to step carefully. Parts of the trail are somewhat steep and rocky, so definitely don’t wear flip-flops.
The whole hike takes about an hour or so. Given the Lakeway location, it’s pretty amazing that you probably won’t see a single soul, even on weekends.
