Ski Shores Cafe

(map) No town does the lake-casual thing like Austin does, and Ski Shores is one of the best. A recent update spiffs up a place that’s been a lakeside legend since the 50s. New menu items like the double-whammy Scooter Burger are a big draw, too (awesome photo courtesy of friend and food-photo genius Emily Lim. Drool over more of her shots here). Picnic tables by the lake, a firepit for making s’mores, family movie nights and the laid-back vibe draw all ages.

Homemade sangria is a refreshing change from ritas, though they’ve got those, too, frozen and on the rocks. Tasty Buffalo wings come in four flavors, including wasabi, and your choice of ranch or blue-cheese dressing.

There are three open decks and patios, or if you’ve had a little too much sun on the lake, a palapa for shade. There are places to dock if you come by boat.

The incredibly addictive fried pickles. You will not be eating just one of these. They say they’re the number-one appetizer here, and you will quickly taste why!

Kid- and dog-friendly, with places for all to play or just hang out.
