(map) The gorgeous scenery alone would be reason enough to visit this Hill Country winery. But given that their tempranillo and viognier have been winning gold medals all over the world, you may want to go ahead and sample a few vinos while you’re here. We were lucky enough to taste nine of the wines on the current list – everything from a floral viognier to a fruity garnacha to the earthy tempranillo with hints of dark-chocolate truffle. All were fantastic.

The open tasting room, with inviting displays of wine, wine accessories, local olive oils and chocolate truffles. They’ve been making wines for a few years; this location opened in 2008.

We got a tour of the winery, partially embedded in a hill. This allows them to naturally cool the wines, and use gravity for production. Below, winemaker Dave talks technique. The winery produces about 5,000 cases a year, concentrating on quality more than quantity.

The front of the tasting room. The front porch overlooks a 360-degree view of the hill country near Stonewall. There are several decks around the building where you can sit with a glass of wine and admire the scenery.

We also were fortunate to be invited to a food tasting from the amazing Cabernet Grill in Fredericksburg. This restaurant is famous for its wine list consisting exclusively of Texas wines. The chef is passionate about pairing the right wine with his dishes. Above, a prime strip of wagyu beef accompanies his wine-braised buffalo short rib on three-cheese grits. Two versions of beef heaven! Below, a lamb “lollipop” topped with sauteed eggplant.

I recently took a tour of the winery and the guide was exceptional! (I believe her last name was Cheney) Her knowledge was impressive and her outgoing personality added so much to the day. I’ve referred many friends and we can’t wait to get back!!
