5 Sep 2011UPDATE: closed (map) It may sound hard to believe, but there’s a reason to love Mondays: all sushi rolls at Mizu Steak & Sushi are half-price. Mizu has six sushi chefs (try saying that fast) who craft rolls both classic and “modern.” Head chef Jennifer creates wildly imaginative combos with crazy names like McLovin’ Sr, Italian Buddha and Nietzsche. They all sound so tempting, we wanted to try every one. And at half-price, you can get pretty far down the list!
Almost too pretty to eat – almost. Above, the front roll is the Applejack, which is wrapped in thin slices of Fuji apple instead of rice or seaweed. It’s filled with fresh tuna and hamachi (yellowtail), daikon radish and cucumber. In the middle, the Mizu roll is made with chunks of lobster and topped with seared kobe beef. Grilled asparagus is also inside, and the roll is topped with chimichurri sauce. So smoky-flavor-good! In back, the Nietzsche roll, made with spicy blue crab, avocado and cream cheese, and wrapped in soy paper.
Sushi rolls and hot sake are half-price every Monday from 5 to 7. It can be a mad frenzy, though, so be prepared – you may need a medicinal Mizu Margarita!
