shrimp nachos at the new Los Pinos restaurant in Bee Cave, Texas

(map) As much-beloved Hudson Bend fave Los Pinos opens a new location in Bee Cave, local salsa fiends rejoice. This place offers an extensive menu of Tex-Mex and interior-Mex dishes, but their claim to fame is definitely the fresh, homemade salsa and fresh, homemade corn and flour tortillas. The garlicky salsa is the kind that makes your eyes water and nose run, but you can’t stop eating it, it’s that addictive. A variety of nachos are on the menu, including shrimp, above, with black beans, melted queso, grilled peppers and plenty of jalapenos.

The aforementioned fiery-hot salsa, sitting innocently in its little plastic bowl. If you can’t get enough of it here, you can order pints or quarts of it to take home. The restaurant offers Tex-Mex choices like tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas, below. This one is a combo of beef and chicken, served with your choice of beans (these are charro). You should also try some of the more unusual dishes, like cochinita pibil (pork roasted in a banana leaf with spices), tacos al pastor, or my favorite, the smoked-duck enchiladas with mole sauce. Mmmm.

The dining room is nothing fancy, but light and bright, with tables and larger booths to accommodate lots of kids. A small outside patio hasn’t been set up yet, but they’re working on it, as well as bar seating. There is a full bar, so you can go ahead and order that Grand Marnier floater on your rita if you like. Cheers!
