Kawa Asian Kitchen

(map) Like the Triple Delight Soup, Kawa offers a little bit of everything: Chinese dishes, Japanese noodles, sushi. Make that a lot of everything – the menu is four pages long! Kawa just opened deep in the heart of Steiner, and their Mongolian Beef, Sweet & Sour Shrimp, and Hawaiian Duck are already flying out the door. Above, the Sesame Chicken, simmered in a rich, nutty sauce. The crab puffs, below, are decadent little fried pillows of crab and cream cheese.

Broiled mussels with a spicy sauce were paired with fresh tuna sushi.

You can eat in the bar, either in one of several booths, at tall tables or right at the sushi counter watching the chefs work on their masterpieces.

The dining room is a bit quieter, offering traditional tables for dining. Below, the fried calamari, with a spicy salt-and-pepper crust., and below that, the famous Chinese egg rolls. Kawa plans to have live music outside on the patio, this Saturday with blues band, the Texas Eastside Kings.

So…did you like it?!? I’m always a little suspicious of places that have more than one type of cuisine.

Ed. Reply: I agree! We were surprised to find that we did like it. Also, there are some unusual things on the menu (cassoulet chinois, japanese curry) that we’d like to try. They say they will be honing the menu, depending on what diners order. We were happy to see kids being adventurous and trying new foods!

Excellent! I’ll have to check it out. Cassoulet chinois and Japanese curry both sound intriguing. Thanks for your response!
