9 Jul 2013(map) One of the newest wineries to appear along the popular 290 wine trail, Hye Meadow is technically not even open. But as you can see, owner Mike is a friendly guy, the kind who’ll welcome you right into his winery itself for a tasting. Eight wines are available for tasting, three of which are made exclusively with Texas grapes. That’s the ripe and floral Texas Viognier, below. Delish!
The new tasting room is still a work in progress, but coming along nicely. The plan is to throw a big grand-opening party on Saturday, July 27, with live music, appetizers, and of course, lots of wine. The tasting room patio will extend out to a big deck overlooking the impressive oak groves.
The other two exclusively Texas wines are the Junkyard Red, a spicy blend of mourvedre, merlot and tempranillo. Besides the Viognier, there’s an off-dry, full-bodied Orange Moscat. Washington State Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling round out the tasting list.
There’s a huge party pavilion, also overlooking the oaks, with a dance floor. Below, the front of the new tasting room. For now, tastings continue at the winery on weekends. Cheers!
