22 Jul 2013(map) Why yes, that is moonshine. And it’s apparently legal. At this “Hye End Tasting Room,” you can try local Texas wines, craft beers, gourmet Texas foods, and even ‘shine. This hooch is made by legendary NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson, and is available in flavors, like the spicy apple pie, above. Fun fact: running moonshine and fleeing “revenooers” (the IRS) is supposedly the origin of Nascar. But the Hye Market is really all about small-town friendliness, sipping and swirling while you learn something new. Below, getting a pour ready – and how about those Solo-cup wineglasses?
Wine tastings happen on Saturdays and feature some good Texas names – including the new Hye Meadow winery, right next door. A good supply of craft beers (okay, and Lone Star) are available.
The market’s next event is this Saturday: Hye Art in the Park from 9 to 1, with food, wines, and local arts and crafts. Cheers!
