Gumbo’s strength is combining the freshest ingredients with Louisiana-influenced spices in ways that don’t overwhelm the flavors of the food. This newest location is in a beautiful setting, perched on a hill overlooking a “lake.” You can watch a great blue heron fishing for his dinner while you’re enjoying yours! Pictured above, the chicken-and-sausage gumbo with their crusty house-baked bread. The gumbo is rich, meaty and a satisfying meal unto itself.

Pecan-crusted jumbo shrimp cover a Caesar salad tossed with creole Caesar dressing and roasted red peppers. The pecans gave the shrimp a deliciously spicy nuttiness.

A cup of crawfish etouffee is classic, full of juicy crawfish tails and rich with crawfish fat. They make their own garlicky herb butter to go with the warm bread.

Five different Fish of the Day choices let you choose both your fish and your sauce. This one is Fish of the Day Simple: rainbow trout with a wine-butter sauce. The tender, flaky trout had a light, crisp breading. You also get a choice of sides – those are tangy goat-cheese mashed potatoes hiding underneath.

The breezy, shaded balcony is a great vantage point for bird-watching, feeding the ducks, or just enjoying a glass of wine.

Inside, the dining room is slightly more formal, with carpet and white tablecloths.

There’s a casual outside bar and dining area, with big doors that roll open to the outdoors. You can also dine at the inside bar, below.
