Huevos divorciados, with two salsas, at the new Don Mario Mexican Restaurant near Lakeway, Texas

(map) From a small taqueria tucked between a laundry and a pool hall, Don Mario and his “Mexico City street food” have now arrived at the fancy digs of the former Sobani location. They may now offer table service, but are still dishing up the same delicious pork al pastor, sopes, alambres, huaraches and other Mexico City cuisine (see a review of the taqueria here). Above, breakfast features dishes like the Huevos Divorciados, fried eggs topped with two salsas and your choice of beans. Huevos Revueltos are scrambled with your choice of ingredients, in this case, chorizo. They’ve also got breakfast tacos and pancakes.

The new dining room is a big step up from the former five-table taqueria. Don Mario offers eight house-made salsas, from the mild and tangy tomatillo to the spicy guacamole and fiery orange salsas. The house specialty is pork al pastor, cooked on an authentic trompa brought from Mexico City. Below, the al pastor street tacos. They also offer more typical quesadillas, enchiladas, tortas and queso. There’s a bar, but they are waiting on their liquor license, so for now it’s BYOB.

This is a great Mexican restaurant, and just a short drive from Lakeway, Steiner Ranch or Four Points. We had the Tacos al Pastor, and they were awesome!
