Domain de Canton ginger liqueur from France at Hudson's on the Bend

(map) French liqueur made with baby Vietnamese ginger might sound a bit … limiting? Au contraire! We were recently lucky enough to be invited to a dinner showcasing this amazingly versatile and delicious mixer. Five cocktails were paired with five courses featuring the creative cuisine of Hudson’s on the Bend. Each course took advantage of the complex spice of the Domaine de Canton liqueur. From top left, clockwise: the chile basil ginger mojito, refreshing with basil instead of mint. Next, the Gold Rush, a blend of Domaine, bourbon, and lemon, garnished with candied ginger. On the lower left, the French Kiss, mixing Domaine and champagne with a dash of house-made bitters. Yes, this was a festive dinner.

This liqueur isn’t just for drinking. It pairs well with food, especially spice and citrus. Above, a venison-prosciutto-wrapped scallop, in a beurre blanc made with Domaine de Canton. That’s caviar on top – ooh, la la! Below, a smoked duck breast with a warm Domaine vinaigrette.

This is the serious cutlery you get at Hudson’s to tackle your steak or chop. Below, two shots of the grilled antelope chop with green chile mashed potatoes. It’s glazed with a guava-Domaine sauce. That’s a ginger old-fashioned next to it: rye, housemade bitters, and Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur. The dinner wrapped up with a peach-ginger iced-tea toddy as we all toasted the versatility of this spirit.
