“No worries, dude” is the motto at the new Down Under Deli & Eatery in Spicewood. The owner, Paul, is from Australia and thought the area needed a cool place to hang out. Not to mention some good pizza. So he’s providing both with the DUDE. He and his wife, Ann, serve pizzas, sandwiches and salads, and some Aussie specialties, like Aussie meat pies. They make their own bread and pizza doughs, as well as the crust for their meat pies and sausage rolls.

The thin crust of the pizza is so good. They try to use fresh ingredients for the toppings whenever possible.

A delicious flaky crust surrounds well-seasoned ground beef in the Aussie meat pies.

Half of the place is the restaurant. The other half is a long open bar, where Paul plans to have live music.

Paul has his own sawmill, where he’s milled a lot of the distinctive wood accents in the DUDE. This tree is actually four trees in one — two cedar trees literally grew around two other trees and surrounded them. It will serve as one of the bars. Other giant slabs of wood in the bar are salvaged from large trees felled by Hurricane Ike.

The DUDE also serves breakfast: bagels, pastries, lattes and cappuccinos. Welcome to the neighborhood, mate!

That pizza looks good! Can’t wait to check it out and it’s right in my neighborhood.
