(map) Cafe Blue just closed its Lake Travis location for the winter. But fans of its burgers and original coastal cuisine can jump right back in the swim of things with this sophisticated new place in the Galleria. Above, the sesame-crusted ahi tuna salad, tender, rare tuna just seared on the outside atop mixed greens. The ginger-honey-lime vinaigrette provided a spicy counterpart to the cool cucumbers and greens. Even more heat came from the wasabi peas sprinkled throughout.
New England crab cakes and New England clam chowder were both standouts, perhaps because the chef comes from Boston. He worked at the original Parker House (160+ years old) and brought the secret recipe for Parker House rolls down here with him. Do not miss these soft and yeasty rolls! The chowder was rich, creamy and filled with clams. There’s a whole school of other seafood dishes, plus sandwiches and hefty burgers.
The marine motif begins with the tiniest detail – the flatware – and continues big-time, with a near-life-size mural of whales spanning one wall.
One dining area is graced by a lively fountain, and there are two huge aquariums (aquaria?) behind the bar.
Even the bathroom faucets are going coastal!
