Brunch at Hill Country Pasta

(map) Mamma Mia! While Hill Country is making the switch from a brunch buffet to a brunch menu, you get to order lots of whatever you like and it’s all one price, including dessert: $12.95. Choose among 15 sweet or savory options, from pancakes to pasta. Above, classic hand-made Italian meatballs with spaghetti. Light, delicate and well-seasoned, the meatballs were topped with a chunky, bright and lively tomato sauce.

You can get any personal-sized pizza on the menu, or create your own. This is the Florentine, made with pesto instead of tomato sauce, with chicken, spinach, fresh and sun-dried tomatoes, and lots of chewy mozzarella. More later on how they get the crust so extra-crispy.

For atmosphere, there’s Italian music playing in the background. The homey decor includes racks of wine and lots of colorful, hand-painted murals of food. Over the windows are hand-lettered Italian expressions like, “Celebri la Famiglia.”

There are happy hour specials on pizzas and beer if you eat at the bar. The serious, wood-burning pizza oven gives their pizzas that thin, super-crisp crust.

You can order an omelet any way you like. This one had Italian sausage, mushrooms and cheese. The restaurant bakes their own fantastic foccacia, which at brunch they use to make a rich, eggy French toast. They also serve pancakes. Below, cheesecake (or any dessert) is included in the price of your meal.
