Bell Springs Winery

(map) No matter how many Texas wineries you visit, it’s still amazing how different they are. This new winery near Dripping Springs is the opposite of the enormous, Tuscan-farmhouse-style places near Fredericksburg (although those are fun, too). Bell Springs is a small, cozy spot set out among the trees. There’s a porch for live music, and you are even welcome to bring your dog. How friendly is that?

A tasting of six wines is $7 ($10 if you want to keep their cool glass). Currently, all the grapes are from California, but they will be planting their own grapes next spring. Standouts from the tasting were a light Pinot Grigio, the not-oaky Chardonnay, and their unique Malvasia Bianca.

There’s live music out on the porch on Saturday afternoons. It’s a peaceful place overlooking a grove of oak and pecan trees. If you can’t be away from football, there are flat-screen TVs inside and out so you can keep an eye on the game. The owners live just next door. As in, the owners get to live just next door. Lucky them!
