Bar Food at Maudie’s

(map) Sometimes it can feel like Maudie’s cool place is (literally) overrun by the younger crowd. But did you know there’s a no-kids bar upstairs with an amazing view, serving smaller versions of the Tex-Mex menu downstairs? Like the tostaditas, above and below: Pork carnitas topped with avocado-tomatillo sauce, pickled onions and cotija cheese. An order of three is just the right size (those below are set out for a party, which they also hold upstairs.)

The bar has a cool, sophisticated vibe, with an incredible view out over the Hill Country. They open up the whole wall of windows in nice weather. There are happy-hour specials every day of the week – all day on Monday!

Spinach queso made with pureed fresh spinach is delish, and you don’t feel quite so guilty. Below, mini-quesadillas with jack cheese and chopped poblanos. They also serve mini-flautas and mini-tacos.

The flower arrangement in the bar looks good enough to eat.

From upstairs, you get a great view of Maudie’s arty fountain.
